The Home Boys Power Pop vs. Indie Rock in a battle to the death. Power Pop wins with more prominent hooks and melodic glue that's as difficult to remove from your head as a fishhook caught in an eyelid. The singer's voice sounds heavily compressed and fuzzed-out.

Subject: I'm #1, I'm # 1!

Not for anything I accomplished personally mind you, but for being the first person to order the Home Boys CD Archives. Letter said so when I
got it in the mail today. What a good Christmas present to myself and a steal at $5.00. Cheaper than eating at Wendy's and a hell of a lot better
value than the lottery ticket I bought in Newport, KY last weekend. This disc contains 13 songs recorded on four track and 7 live songs that aren't
listed on the cover. Thud or Spinetingler or Sludge King -whatever you want to call him - is releasing this disc on his indie label Auntie Grizelda
Records. He is a frequent poster to the V-Roys site, excellent musician and all around good guy. This is a labor of love for him that works on the fans behalf.

I was familiar with some of these songs since the lead singer and song writer of the Homeboys is the venerable Scott Carpenter, a man I played
in a band with for three or four years and who is currently the V-Roys Webmonster. But I don't think I owned any copies of the Homboys stuff. Now Sludge has cleaned out the archives and popped them onto CD for us for $5.00. I think this is the price for the people on this site. If that's
different he'll probably let us know. Anyway, this thing is full of great songs, great singing, great playing and a D.I.Y indie spirit that really seals the deal for me. Hell, it be worth it just for the songs "Looking Back" - incredible drumming by Dave Tumblin, "Radio Road" - enough said, and "Losing a Friend" which I'll admit makes me eyes well up a little bit. I can't be a tough guy all the damn time. But there's tons more stuff on there, these are just my personal faves.  If you like pop, especially indie stuff, and have a passing fancy on the Knoxville music scene, this disc is for you.

Testimony over,
